Omaha State Sen. Tom White announced Monday he is forming an exploratory committee to consider a run for the U.S. House of Representatives.

White was elected to the Nebraska Legislature in 2006. If he does decide to run he would be competing against incumbent Lee Terry. Democrats say White may be the party's best chance to beat Terry.

"Our community needs an independent, effective voice in Congress, someone who puts partisanship aside to get things done. My record in the Legislature demonstrates my ability to work with members of both parties to reduce taxes, create jobs and make government more efficient."

White is currently a partner with the law firm White Wulff & Jorgensen.
