$500,000 Bond For Fatal Crash

A judge has ordered an Omaha man to stand trial for a crash that killed his girlfriend's two young daughters.

Thirty-five-year-old Christopher Phelps is charged with two counts of motor vehicle homicide in the Oct. 10 wreck that killed 5-year-old Mela Skye Torry and 4-year-old Laela Torry-Tooley.

Police say Phelps was driving drunk when he drove the girls' mother and her three daughters to their home in north Omaha. Police say Phelps sped off and lost control of the SUV, which flipped over in a ravine. The two sisters were thrown from the vehicle and killed.

Online court records show a Douglas County Court judge on Tuesday ordered Phelps' case sent to District Court for trial. He's being held on $500,000 bond.
