An upcoming conference in Omaha will examine how those who experience or respond to disasters are affected psychologically.

First responders, health professionals and chaplains are expected to gather July 17 for the Nebraska Behavioral Health Conference.

Conference organizers say there is an increasing awareness that an effective response to disasters includes addressing the psychological needs of both survivors and responders.

Officials plan to introduce the new statewide behavioral health emergency response team. They say Nebraska is one of two states in the country to have such a team. Indiana also has one.
