If you're heading to Rosenblatt Stadium Friday night, prepare for delays along Interstate 80.
While some took advantage of the day off to head to the Henry Doorly Zoo, fans also tried to find an early parking space for the Omaha World-Herald Fireworks Show which is scheduled to begin after the 6:35 p.m. game between the Royals and New Orleans. More than 23,000 people are expected.
"I didn't realize everything would be shut off so early in the day," said Karen Sater of Omaha. On a fireworks night there are 1,000 fewer parking spots around the stadium, the area is a fallout zone.
"By noon this will fill up fast,” said Jim Davis, who arrived at the empty lot across from the stadium at 8:30 a.m. He was prepared for a long day and even the rain. "Pretty soon Rosenblatt will be moving so we need to find a new spot."
"It's a pyrotechnician's worst nightmare, the rain and the weather,” said Dan Kaiser of Fireworks By Grucci, who has been there for every one of the last 25 shows at Rosenblatt.
"We cover everything in plastic,” said Kaiser. “With a light rain like this, we can shoot through the plastic and it won't hurt the show at all."
In case of a rainout Friday night, the make-up fireworks date is Saturday night, though there wouldn't be a game as the Royals play in Oklahoma City.
