Sixty pounds of hallucinogenic mushrooms were seized by a Sarpy County K-9 Unit during a traffic stop Tuesday afternoon on Interstate 80 near the Gretna interchange. A California man was arrested.

Forty-seven-year-old Stephen Goldsmith was booked on charges of unlawful manufacturing and distribution of a controlled substance, a Class 3 felony. He was also charged with a drug stamp violation which, a Class 4 felony.

The Sarpy County Sheriff's Department says this was one of the largest seizures of this type of drug in the area.

"In our careers, I don't know that we've ever seen this quantity in the state of Nebraska, regionally, for this type of drug," said Sarpy County Sheriff’s Department Capt. John Kucer.

Goldsmith claimed he works on the road crew for a band that is working its way east and was taking the drugs to the east coast.
