U.S. Sen. Mike Johanns says he will not make a decision on whether he will vote to confirm U.S. Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor until he has a complete picture of her judicial record.
Johanns' comments came after he met with Sotomayor in Washington on Thursday.
The Nebraska Republican says he and Sotomayor discussed several topics, including Johanns' concern that justices apply the law as written and not "attempt to legislate from the bench."
Johanns noted Sotomayor's distinguished legal career and compelling life story. However, he is still evaluating her qualifications, and says he will thoroughly review her record before her confirmation hearings.
Sotomayor has been meeting U.S. senators at since her Capitol Hill debut earlier this month.
