Starting in the fall, no one will pay out-of-state tuition at Peru State College.

The change in tuition rates is part of a three-year pilot program at the southeast Nebraska school. Peru State already charges a uniform tuition rate for online classes, so this change will affect only on-campus students.

Peru State President Stan Carpenter says he expects the change will help the college's enrollment continue to grow from its current level of 2,300.

He says out-of-state students make up about 9 percent of the on-campus population of 900.

The current in-state tuition is $116.50 per credit hour. The out-of-state figure is $233 per credit hour.

He said Tuesday that the campus needs an increase of around 40 new students to make up the revenue loss.
