Organizers of the Glenn Miller Birthplace Society in Clarinda, Iowa want to toot his horn a little louder with a new museum to honor the former big band leader and Iowa native.

Miller was born in the southwest Iowa town of Clarinda in 1904. He died when his plane crashed on its way to Paris in 1944.

Clarinda has hosted an annual festival in Miller's name for several years and now they plan to begin construction on a Glenn Miller Museum on July 1st.

The group has raised about $900,000, including both state and federal funds, for the project. The president of the Glenn Miller Birthhplace Society board, Marvin Negley, says the museum will only add to the recognition Miller deserves.

Miller's hits include "In The Mood, Tuxedo Junction, (I've Got A Gal In)Kalamazoo, Little Brown Jug, A String Of Pearls, Pennsylvania 6-5000, Chattanooga Choo Choo" and "Moonlight Serenade."
