U.S. Sen. Ben Nelson says he's impressed with the life, career and views of Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor.
The Nebraska Democrat's comments came after meeting with Sotomayor on Tuesday in Washington.
Nelson says he and Sotomayor had a good discussion about the role of the different branches of government, her history on the bench and her judicial philosophy.
Nelson says he believes Sotomayor is committed to respecting settled law and precedent and will "not bring an agenda to the bench seeking to make law."
Sotomayor has been meeting U.S. senators at a breakneck pace since her Capitol Hill debut last week.
The White House is pressing for her quick confirmation, but Republicans have pressed for more time to consider the nomination.
