The Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality is awarding more than $2.5 million to support 126 tire recycling and cleanup projects.
The grants are part of the Waste Reduction and Recycling Grants program administered through DEQ. The grants support both the collection of scrap tires and the purchase of new tire-derived products.
The Cassgram reports Cass County 2009 grant recipients:
Cass County is receiving just over $25,000 to collect 250 tons of tires. The county road department will conduct the scrap tire cleanup June 22nd through June 27th at the Cass County Recycle Center near Mynard and at the county shop in Elmwood.
The Beaver Lake Association gets $650 for 50% reimbursement of crumb rubber for the clubhouse playground.
Eagle Elementary School gets $4,500 for reimbursement of crumb rubber on its playground.
Otoe County is receiving over $47,000 for a 500-ton scrap tire cleanup at three sites.
