Trail Officially On Hold

MoPac Trail extension officially on hold as a follow-up to a story first reported by Chnnel Six News.

As expected, the Lower Platte South Natural Resources Board of Directors voted to further study connecting the recreational trail from Wabash to the Lied Platte River Bridge.

The NRD will meet with Cass County Commissioners to discuss alternatives to the 334th Street plan it decided on earlier this year.

The NRD action means LB-134 is no longer under consideration in its current form. Senator Dave Pankonin of Louisville had agreed to drop his priority bill if the full NRD board would follow its executive committee’s recommendation to place the moratorium on the trail link. LB-134 would have limited the powers of natural resources districts statewide to use eminent domain in acquiring recreational right-of-way and property.

Along with the moratorium, the NRD is dropping a lawsuit in Cass County District Court against a property owner along 334th Street who had refused to allow NRD staff on his property.
