Diversity Not Absent In NE Census Figures

Despite an uptick in the state's white population, data going back this decade shows Nebraska is still becoming more diverse.

Minorities now make up nearly 16 percent of the state's population. That's up from 12.7 percent in 2000.

University of Nebraska at Omaha census analyst David Drozd (DREWS) says the state's minority population also is relatively younger.

Of children ages 5 to 9, one in four is a minority.

Hispanics account for 64 percent of the state's population gains since 2000. In comparison, the white population made up 4 percent of growth over the same span.
