State officials say there are several free and cost-share programs to help people plant trees and shrubs in rural and urban Nebraska settings.

Dennis Adams of the Nebraska Forest Service says some can be found through the state's natural resources districts and others through the federal Natural Resources Conservation Service.

The federal Wildlife Habitat Incentives Program, for example, offers landowners payments for developing wildlife habitat, including pivot corners and irregular areas.

The Pheasants Forever and Quail Forever organizations have a Corners for Wildlife program for establishing wildlife habitat in pivot corners.

The Nebraska Statewide Arboretum also oversees funding for several tree-planting programs.
