The suspects in Friday’s armored car robbery remain at large, though the getaway vehicle has been found. The guard wounded during the holdup remains hospitalized in good condition.
It was business as usual Monday at the Florence branch of the Douglas County Treasurer's Office on North 30th Street. Doors opened for the first time since the armored car robbery in the parking lot out front.
Princeton Hervey of Council Bluffs, the Rochester Armed Car guard shot and tasered during the robbery is expected to be okay.
Sharron saw it happen. "I was scared, I was ducking, but I still wanted to help them find him so I was ducking trying to look and see if I could see his license plate and I could see the back license plate, but it didn't look like the van was shot up."
Police say one of the two guards returned fire during the incident and may have hit at least one of the suspects. A witness who could only see the passenger side of the van saw a man jump into the van before it went in reverse out of the lot. She said by the way he jumped in, he didn't appear to be shot.
Police found a white van at 66th and State Streets on Friday that they believe was used in the robbery. So far none of the suspects have turned up at area hospitals.
The bag that was stolen contained deposits from the Douglas County Treasurer's Office. Douglas County Treasurer John Ewing says taxpayers whose checks may have been stolen during the robbery do not need to worry about identity theft. He says his office is reviewing procedures and doing what it can to help police.
The Rochester Armored Car Company has offered no comment about the robbery or company procedures.
