More than $26 million in Army Corps of Engineers projects have been approved for Nebraska as part of the federal stimulus package.

A news release from the office of Sen. Ben Nelson says the money will go toward maintenance, operations and construction work.

The allocations include $9.36 million for flood work in western Sarpy County and the Clear Creek area of Saunders County.

The funding should be enough for officials to complete the $30 million flood-plain project. It is aimed at improving 15-20 miles of levees on the Platte and Elkhorn rivers, where ice jams often form.

Nearly $7.4 million has been allocated for operations and maintenance at Harlan County Lake in south-central Nebraska.
