Volunteers to Offer Homestead Exemption Filing Help
There is help for those who need to file their Homestead Exemption. The Douglas County Assessor's office will have volunteers on hand to help at various times and locations through June.

There is help for those who need to file their Homestead Exemption. The Douglas County Assessor's office will have volunteers on hand to help at various times and locations through June.

To qualify for a Homestead Exemption, you must be at least 65 years old before January first and own and live in the home. Certain people with disabilities and the survivors of veterans might also qualify.

Volunteers will be at the following locations during the hours listed:

- Abrahams Library, 5111 N. 90th Street, 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on April 30.
- Disabled American Veterans, 4515 F Street, 10 a.m.-noon on May 4.
- Tangier Shrine, 2823 S. 84th Street, 10 a.m.-noon on May 6.
- Benson Baptist Church, 6319 Maple Street, 10 a.m.-noon on May 11.
- Holy Name Church, 2909 Fontenelle Blvd., 9 a.m.-11 a.m. on May 14.
- Florence Library, 2902 Bondeson, 10 a.m.-noon on May 21.
- Our Lady of Guadalupe, 5005 South 23rd Street, 10 a.m.-noon on May 26.
- Christ Child Center, 1248 South 10th Street, 9 a.m.-11 a.m. on May 29.
- Ralston House, 7301 Q Street, 10 a.m.-noon, June 4.
- Disabled American Veterans, 4515 F Street, 10 a.m.-noon, June 8.
- AARP, 1941 South 42nd Street, Suite 220, 10 a.m.-noon, June 11.
- Elkhorn Fraternal Order of Eagles, 302 Douglas Street, 10 a.m.-noon, June 16.

You will need to bring your federal income tax return, Social Security Form SSA-1099, information on pensions and annuities, information on interest and dividends, railroad retirement information and records of any IRA distributions. You also must bring out-of-pocket medical expense information or you will not be able to fill out the exemption form.
