An Omaha woman is dead and a man faces a motor vehicle homicide charge in a crash Sunday morning that investigators say involved speed and alcohol.

The driver of a car heading south on North 36th Avenue, 30-year-old David Chambers of Omaha, lost control and slammed into a tree south of Redick Avenue around 2:30 a.m.

His passenger, 36-year-old Claudia Jackson, was taken to Creighton Medical Center where she later died.

“The driver appears to be under the influence of alcohol and is refusing all tests at this time,” said Omaha Police Sgt. Tony Gutierrez. “He'll be booked into Douglas County Corrections for felony motor vehicle homicide, causing serious bodily injury."
