Firefighters usually like to tell stories about the blazes they've battled, but the volunteer fire department in Palmyra, Nebraska is tight-lipped about a fire that destroyed a vacation home.

The house and shed next to a pond southeast of Lincoln was destroyed by a grass fire. Sources say the controlled burn on grassland was started by the fire department last weekend.

The flames were extinguished and the fire crews left, but it rekindled and jumped to a neighboring property owned by a couple from the Omaha area. No one was on the property at the time.

Palmyra's fire chief has refused to comment. The owners also declined to talk abut what happened, but they did confirm an insurance agent representing the fire department has been to the scene.
