Think you have what it takes to be the best? Some had a chance to find out Sunday at the Omaha Home Show against the top pool pros in the Women’s Professional Billiards Association.
They were competing in the Omaha Classic at the Qwest Center. In between matches they took on challengers.
"I've been playing in pool halls and there is nothing compared to a nine-ball champ," said Ryan Pravecek of Omaha, who learned it wasn't easy. "Sarah is real good, I got a couple bank shots on her. After that she ran it out to the nine."
His opponent was former Billiard Congress of America amateur champion Sarah Rousey, currently ranked 12th in the WPBA.
Steve Tipton has been the tournament director since 1993. "We got a couple cues here, we let people walk in, play a challenge match against one of the top women, kind of make a memory or a moment of misery from them if it's possible, but have a lot of fun."
Jennifer Geranis of Omaha also took a shot, facing someone who has 16 years experience. "Very nervous, especially with the commentator."
"Hours and hours of practice and getting through frustration ‘cause everybody hits a plateau and you have to work your way through it,” said Rousey, who brings plenty of talent to the table.
"It amazes me, it's like I would have never have seen that shot you're looking at it going," said Geranis watching Rousey play.
What happened next surprised no one more than Geranis, who won! "I don't know I think Steve was sharking me and saying girls always win and kind of got me," said Rousey, smiling.
"Now I got a whole week worth that my boyfriend, he will never hear the end of it," said Geranis. "He lost to her and I won."
This was just a warm-up for Rousey who’ll compete in the world championships next month.
