The general manager of the Sapp Brothers distribution center in West Point has been sentenced to 45 days in jail and fined $8,000 for his involvement in a scam in which he promoted the selling of ethanol-blended gasoline at higher unleaded prices.

Tim Kaup also must perform 240 hours of community service and publish an apology in a Scribner-area newspaper. He was sentenced Tuesday in Burt County.

Kaup pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting Tom Wiese in committing seven counts of theft by deception, one count of criminal simulation and one count of deceptive advertising.

Wiese, who owns gas stations in Scribner and Decatur, was fined $4,000 in November after pleading guilty as part of a plea agreement.
