The owners of a Pizza Hut in Superior, NE, have been fined $7,865 for violating child labor laws.

The U.S. Labor Department ordered the fines after investigating Hart Management Inc.'s Superior Pizza Hut location. Hart is based in Blair, and owns 10 Pizza Hut restaurants in the region.

Officials said Thursday the Superior Pizza Hut violations were having three 17-year-olds regularly operating a car, two minors performing baking duties and five young employees who worked later than 8 p.m. between Labor Day and June 1.

The Labor Department's Wage and Hour office in Des Moines, Iowa, says it is working with restaurants in the region to improve compliance with labor laws.
