Former U.S. Senator Chuck Hagel has accepted a special appointment to UNO's College of Public Affairs and Community Service.
CPACS Dean B.J. Reed said Hagel will be on campus periodically to guest lecture, participate in forums and seminars and meet with faculty and students.
“This is extremely exciting for our college and for all of UNO,” Reed said. “The senator has been a great friend and has always been a proud part of our campus community.”
Hagel earned a bachelor of general studies degree from UNO in 1971.
He was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1996 and re-elected in 2002 by the largest plurality in the state’s history.
“I’m honored to have an opportunity to stay connected to UNO and Nebraska through this appointment,” Hagel said. “I look forward to my visits to UNO and helping this excellent institution in every way I can.”
As a Distinguished Centennial Visiting Professor, Hagel will share his experience and expertise with students, faculty, staff, alumni and others in class lectures, seminars, workshops and informal settings.
