Three people who told a deputy they were celebrating Arbor Day have been arrested after they were caught with a tree they took from a tree farm west of Lincoln.

The deputy pulled over their truck about 2:20 a.m. Saturday after it left
Anderson's Tree Farms.

Capt. Ben Houchin says the two men and one woman told the deputy
they took the tree because it looked dead and they wanted to save
it.

Houchin says the tree farm owner said he wouldn't press the case if the tree looked dead.

One of the men was arrested on suspicion of trespassing. The woman was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving. The other man
was arrested on suspicion of being intoxicated while carrying a concealed weapon.
