Downtown Omaha will be abuzz with events and activity throughout the weekend.

The state wrestling tournament is underway.

The Omaha Home Show is just beginning.

And Saturday night, Creighton plays a bracket buster game against George Mason.

There is a plan to move people quickly in and out of the area.

For the most part, it was smooth sailing around the Qwest Center Omaha.

Michelle Barak and her family drove in from Dorchester, Nebraska.

"It was very busy, very busy since we came in during rush hour," Barak said. "Actually, it went pretty good."

The area around the Qwest Center will be a very busy place the next few days.

"That's what we're supposed to do,” Roger Dixon of the Metropolitan Entertainment and Convention Authority. “We're supposed to have a lot of events, but this weekend, we have probably a little bit more than the normal."

Dixon said there will be a lot of visitors roaming the surrounding area.

One area that drivers need to be aware of centers around new parking lots E and G.

It is the location of the old Swanson plant at 10th and Capitol Avenue.

To enter these lots, drivers have to take 12th Street and then head east on Davenport Street.

The only entrances to these two lots are on a dead end street.

“We put out additional signage in the downtown area that can direct people, Dixon said. “So as I say all the time, just be a little patient, watch what you are doing so the confusion factor should be a little bit less."

Cathy and Ed Kobza came in from Polk, Nebraska.
"We made it last year too and wouldn't miss it for the world," Ed said.

They also arrived in Omaha during the morning rush.

And as for parking?

“He dropped me and the kids off and he had to do it (park),” Cathy said.

“No problems...just right out of the drive way and into the parking lot," Ed said.

The wrestling tournament ends Saturday but that's not going to lighten traffic in the downtown area.

UNO plays second ranked Notre Dame in hockey at the Civic Auditorium both Friday and Saturday night.
