Nebraska Rural Development Commission and Nebraska Department of Economic Development have awarded more than $658,000 to 22 value-added agriculture businesses in the state.

The projects run the gamut from a winery in Paxton, to a cheesemaker in Scottsbluff, a specialty-meats producer in Randolph and a business startup in Clarkson that wants to sell native and ornamental plants from Nebraska.

To receive the money, projects are supposed to help support and grow the state's ag industry. Gov. Dave Heineman approved the grants.
