A man is dead and another in jail following a stabbing at an Ashland apartment complex Sunday morning.

"From what we know right now there was an argument that occurred between the two, the victim and the suspect both live at the apartment complex,” said Saunders County Attorney Scott Tingeloff.

He said when officers arrived at the Laune Apartments at 13th and Adams around 3:30 a.m., they found 20-year-old Francisco Javier Magana-Rodriguez lying on a second floor landing. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

"There were multiple stab wounds that occurred,” said Tingelhoff, who added the victim was stabbed with a kitchen knife.

A short time later, 58-year-old Arturo Manniales-Perez turned himself in to Ashland Police and is being held at the Saunders County Jail, booked for first-degree murder.

Police are still investigating what led to the argument. "I think it's one of those signs of the times where we're getting more metro area influence in this area,” said Tingelhoff. “It's an unfortunate reality, but it's one of the things we have to deal with.”

"Since I've been county attorney the last six years, I think this is the second homicide that's happened, so not very often."
