Drunk Driving Crash Caught On Video

A drunk driver runs a red light, crashes into an unsuspecting driver and drives away. It's all on video.

The victim isn’t hurt but the case is unusual.

The crash happened a year ago in the intersection of 110th and Harrison at 10am.

The suspect was arrested in a parking lot by Sarpy County deputies after witnesses followed him and called 9-1-1.

41 year old Jerry Yocum pleaded guilty to drunk driving.
Reports showed his blood alcohol level at three times the legal limit.

Friday judge David Arterburn sentenced Yocum to 180 days in jail, five years probation and specialized substance abuse treatment.

His attorney Randy Paragas says, “The defendant really showed he turned his life around and that’s reflected in the pre-sentence investigation. The judge noted that in his sentencing.”

The digital video of the actual crash helped the prosecutor argue for a stiff sentence.
Deputy Sarpy County Attorney Stephanie Hansen says, “It clearly shows Mr. Yocum was so intoxicated he didn’t see the red light. He barreled right through an intersection and could have seriously hurt the driver of the Jetta.”

A heating and air service van equipped with a digital camera happened to be at the right intersection at the right time.
Yocum is a third offense drunk driver and was on probation at the time of the crash.
He told the judge that he hasn’t taken a drink since.

Judge Arterburn warned Yocum to follow treatment and probation conditions or he’ll go to prison.
