A wind advisory is in effect from 12 to 6 p.m. Monday for southeast Nebraska and southwest Iowa, including Omaha, Council Bluffs and Lincoln. One to two inches of snow is likely in the metro between 5 and 8 a.m.

Northwest winds of 25-35 mph are expected by early afternoon with gusts to near 45 mph.

The advisory is in effect from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. for areas to the west and north, including Blair, Columbus, David City, Fremont, Norfolk, Schuyler, Seward, Wahoo and Wayne.

A winter weather advisory is in effect for central Iowa, including the counties of Audubon, Carroll and Crawford, from 6 a.m. to noon and a blizzard watch is in effect from Monday afternoon through late Monday night.

Strong northwest winds of 25-35 mph with gusts to 50 mph will blow around the snow already on the ground with a possible 3-4 inches of additional snow expected to begin falling late Sunday night into Monday morning.

This combination will likely produce blizzard conditions for a prolonged period Monday afternoon and evening across central Iowa with significant blowing and drifting. In addition, the strong winds will bring an arctic air mass creating dangerously cold wind chills by Monday evening.

Drivers are advised to be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities, including possible whiteout conditions.
