A wind advisory is in effect from 12 to 6 p.m. Monday for southeast Nebraska and southwest Iowa, including Omaha, Council Bluffs and Lincoln. One to two inches of snow is likely in the metro between 5 and 8 a.m.

Northwest winds of 25-35 mph are expected by early afternoon with gusts to near 45 mph.

The advisory is in effect from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. for areas to the west and north, including Blair, Columbus, David City, Fremont, Norfolk, Schuyler, Seward, Wahoo and Wayne.

A winter weather advisory is in effect for central Iowa, including the counties of Audubon, Carroll and Crawford, from 6 a.m. to noon and a blizzard watch is in effect from Monday afternoon through late Monday night.

Strong northwest winds of 25-35 mph with gusts to 50 mph will blow around the snow already on the ground with a possible 3-4 inches of additional snow expected to begin falling late Sunday night into Monday morning.

This combination will likely produce blizzard conditions for a prolonged period Monday afternoon and evening across central Iowa with significant blowing and drifting. In addition, the strong winds will bring an arctic air mass creating dangerously cold wind chills by Monday evening.

Drivers are advised to be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities, including possible whiteout conditions.

We might be having global ice ages. I don't we are having global warming. If we were, it would be much warmer than it is. I think the scientist are wrong. I don't believe so.

I'd like to second every single word Mel said. Roads were only wet this morning, otherwise totally clear. Drive slower and passively and we all get to and from home and work.

Where is Al Gore hiding? Where is all this global warming? There is no ice melting in Omaha this winter. There is no ice melting in the Arctic they are at -80 below zero there. Brrrr!

By 8am the roads were completely clear on the interstate. Good job to our city snow removal crew. So far, I think we've had a pretty mild winter here in Omaha. You've just got to have enough common sense to get up earlier and drive slowly and with care. One thing that has always bothered me (I know boo hoo) are the people with their big trucks and SUVs (and I don't mean to lump everyone into this - just some drivers) who will ride right up your tailpipe to force you out of the way. That is the kind of aggressive driving that causes accidents. I've had it happen when I had a child in the car with me that was clearly visable to other drivers. Its like some people are so selfish and self-centered that they cannot imagine the grief and loss of such stupidity - just "get out of my way".

Boo Hoo. School did not get cancelled.

Haha Bonita, you must be one of those odd Californians who can't handle a little winter weather. You silly goose, it's winter, what do you expect?

I just moved back from Tucson. And I really mean it when I say I love Omaha and its weather. Seasons are great as is snow. It teaches you to slow down. Also there is no place like home. God Bless Nebraska and Omaha.

Today is good compared to the rest of the cold, frigid week. At 6:30 a.m. when I went to warm up my car it was almost warm.

BOOOOO WHO can you cry a little more? It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize we get snow here every now and then, and with snow, comes cold weather, so deal with it

Posted by: HERE WE GO AGAIN on Jan 12, 2009 at 03:41 AM
Here we go again, folks! Take it easy, relax, take a deep breath and do the best you can. Let's watch out for one another and drop the speed (including you big 4 wheelers!) We'll all get where we're going if we just give each other a chance.

There certainly better not be anyone complaining about no snow plow trucks being out! I went to get gas before the snow started and I saw two drive by me in less than ten minutes. So, they have been out for a while getting ready for the snow.

I have never laughed as hard as I did when I read Bonita's comment, come on up to AK were it's been -40 for the last 2 weeks , we'll take the snow, it would warm it up!

Bonita, with all do respect, are you high?

Posted by: Keith on Jan 11, 2009 at 08:20 PM
Once we get through February....

Posted by: Ryan on Jan 11, 2009 at 08:17 PM
We've had a relatively mild winter so far. Can't complain about a little snow here and there. Look at the bright side, at least we're not getting here what they're getting in the Pacific Northwest.

You hate Omaha because of winter, "Bonita?" I hate to be "Mr. Obvious," but you're living in the midwest, Bonita. Home of cold winters. Oh yeah, it's January too. Not too many people "love" winter, but perhaps you should consider relocating to a warmer climate, say Phoenix or Albuquerque. Maybe then, we'd see "I HATE PHOENIX!!! DONT MOVE HERE, WEATHER SUCKS" on a local news affiliate after a few weeks of searing heat.

It's called winter in the Midwest folks. It's only an inch of snow. Get up a little early and get to work on time. I have to be there by 6:00am and it won't be a problem. It's not complicated. Bonita, were you expecting the 70's January?? It's winter, get used to it. By a sled and have some fun.

Posted by: You People are crazy on Jan 11, 2009 at 06:37 PM
How can you complain about the weather when it is mid January, we were in the 40's last week. What is everyone's problem? Its going to snow, its going to suck, everyone should know this

Posted by: Pete on Jan 11, 2009 at 06:29 PM
To bonita, who "hates Omaha' (in caps). Get on any highway and drive in any direction and it will take you out of Omaha.

Posted by: amy on Jan 11, 2009 at 06:27 PM
Bring on a snow day!!
