Burglaries & Break-Ins

A burglar rips through an upscale Omaha home, tearing down paintings and speaker covers in a search for a safe. The suspect left without finding anything but drove out of the victim's garage with their Jaguar. The homeowner believes that might also be the way the burglar got in.

This burglary raises the question of garage door security and the ability for thieves to use random remote controls to gain access to your home. Lee Pounds has been installing and selling garage doors for 22 years. "It is possible with the older systems that pre-date the rolling code technology," said Pounds.

He advises anyone with an opener that is more than 15 years old to have make service call to find out if an upgrade is necessary. It does not require a complete change of the working opener, just a $65 part.
