OPD’s G.R.E.A.T. (Gang Resistance Education and Training) Program and the Crime Prevention Unit will be distributing computer software to parents of students at Omaha Public Schools and Westside District 66 to protect their children from the dangers of the Internet.
We hope to empower parents and enlist their help in monitoring the activities of their children in this fight against gangs and child predators. This software will enable parents to see the sites their child has been visiting.
This distribution will be initially for Middle school parents in starting January 2009 and will be distributed through the school resource officers.
ComputerCop Software Corp., based in Bohemia N.Y., is a developer and marketer of a suite of Internet Safety and Monitoring software for parents and Computer Forensic software for law enforcement and related agencies.
ComputerCop Standard is a CD-Rom based Internet Monitoring tool that searches and displays images and text. ComputerCop, which is the only parental Internet monitoring software to be endorse by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, is designed to be powerful, yet simple to use. This ComputerCop Software will display pictures found on the hard-drive and images from web sites visited by a child or images sent to the child. The software will perform a scan for potentially inappropriate websites or if a child is communicating with a stranger.
For more information contact the Omaha Police Department.
This software is one way that we can assist parents in monitoring their children’s activity on the Internet.
