Tire dumping grows along rural roads in Cass County and authorities think their best hope of catching those responsible is having the eyes and ears of the public at work.
The Cassgram reports that there have been about 16 different instances since the middle of December, the last two of which happened last Friday and Tuesday. Over 1,000 tires have been dumped.
Cass County Commissioners, Sheriff Bill Brueggemann and Road Superintendent Lenny Thorne discussed the illegal activity at Tuesday’s county board meeting.
Brueggemann said all but three have occurred north of Highway 66, leading him to believe those responsible are bringing in the tires from the metro area. Thorne agreed, saying the tires probably aren’t from around Cass County because they show no wear and tear from rock roads, but instead are smooth and were mostly likely driven only on pavement.
Brueggemann also theorized that at least one of those responsible has some knowledge of Cass County because of the out-of-way locations that have been chosen for dumping.
