A police dog was used to locate a burglary suspect inside an Omaha grocery Monday morning.

Police say 32-year-old Sean Belton of Omaha broke into Phil's Foodway at 30th and Ames around 1 a.m. When officers determined he was still inside the store, they sent the canine in to find Belton, who had items in his pockets when taken into custody.

Belton was booked on multiple charges, including burglary and obstructing law enforcement.

Who dares to be my "mini"? Don't you know the consequences and reprecussions that may come with that? Anyway my comment to Allison would be that none of us want to see our four legged brothers shot either, but one of the main reasons they are used in these kind of situations is so that an officer is not ambushed by a waiting criminal.

I guess this criminal doesn't realize that businesses have silent alarms, and that in this case there is a police precinct a single block away.

Thank God the dog didn't get hurt. I am always fearful when they have to use the canine unit. If the person is stupid enough to do things like this, why wouldn't they be stupid enough to shoot the dog to avoid getting bit? Good job, OPD!

Thank You God and OPD. Great job OPD! There we go now hopefully citizens will stop living in fear or being ambilivent! If you're not too old or disabled (for real) then let's step up to the plate! Yah!
