A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for southeastern Fremont, Montgomery and Page counties in Iowa until 6 p.m. Sunday.
It probably felt like Christmas for some county officials, only a week later
The Cassgram reports that on December 31st, the Cass County Road Department received the $1,239,650 reimbursement check for the Church Road paving project that was completed in 2004, according to Road Superintendent Lenny Thorne.
At the time, the county wanted to move the project along and didn’t want to wait for the federal portion to be doled out. So along with its share, Cass County covered the federal portion of the project until such time that the federal funds became available for reimbursement through the Nebraska Department of Roads. It had long been stated the funds would be returned in 2008, but there had been doubt expressed at times that the money would be received any time soon.
The largest portion of the reimbursement, $820,000, was returned to the Inheritance Tax Fund from which it was borrowed. The remainder of the amount, $419,650, went into the road fund for future projects.
