A Heartland woman reported to police a strange burglary at her home. The place was ransacked, but the only things taken were a tuna sandwich and four beers.

The 52-year old woman lives in the Levi Carter Neighborhood, near 16th and Ames Avenue.

She told Omaha Police when she returned home on Saturday, December 6th she noticed a window was broken, and when she went inside the home was trashed.

The thieves had searched high and low, apparently for something of value to steal, but settled for the sandwich and beer.

Everyone is making "light" of the tuna sandwich..but it's a very good thing she wasn't home. Things may have ended differently.

I suggest that You yourself need to proof-read before posting.

This whole thing smells a little "fishy", LOL.

My neighbor, he didn't have a tuna sandwich...So I gave him my tuna sandwich, and now I don't have a tuna sandwich...

People I think we are missing the point here. Although the headline indicates that "only" a tuna sandwich was taken, let us not forget that 4 beers were stolen as well....Hopefully Chief Wiggum and co. will get to the bottom of the bottle. err umm bottom of this!!!

Can you say cat burglar

Classic example of why you should not smoke pot before commiting a burglary. I'll bet she had some chips and ice cream missing as well.

Posted by: Anonymous on Dec 11, 2008 at 10:06 AM
Smart burglar. Nothing to pawn. Hard to get caught (unless OPD gets a new grant to check people for alcohol AND tuna on their breath).

A lot of you need to go back to school and have you English teacher proof read your comments before you post them. And Dave needs to go buy a map!

Nothing was mention in the story about Carter Lake Iowa. It was Levi Carter Park. Maybe some need to read it again

She need to file a report. That is what you do. On the bright note she does make a good tuna salad.

Oh Cindy...I understand you completely...the amount they took...I would have given to them...the damage I paid for not a big deal...BUT, the price of security....priceless.

Posted by: Cindy on Dec 10, 2008 at 05:12 PM
My house was broke into about a year ago, and all they took was food and T.P. The damage they caused to get into the house far outweighed the value of the items they took. But the main thing they steal from you is your sense of security. They only stole about $30.00 worth of food but caused about $400.00 damage to get in and trashed the house.

Jen that was awesome! ^_^ With all the bad news on here today it was nice to be able to shed a smile, thank you. And you're right, the thing isn't what was stolen, but the fact that her home was broken into and her safety was in question.

Guess the robbers were hungry and wanted a sandwich and a cold beer. But of course, there are other ways to get that. Like BUY IT YOURSELF!!!

Kinda reminds me of the Klondike commercials: "What would you do-oo-oo for a tuna sandwich?"

It was probably her son.

Hey Kyle...Carter Lake is part of Iowa. It just happens to be on the wrong side of the river.

Posted by: Cliff on Dec 10, 2008 at 11:39 AM
This made me laugh for 5 minutes. Watch out for the Sandwich/Beer bandit.

T...first someone breaks into this lady's house and now your accusing her of have bad tuna salad? Why don't you give the poor lady a break.

Posted by: Deb on Dec 10, 2008 at 10:52 AM
Yes a police report needed to be filed. If they were looking for something to pawn then they'll be breaking into other homes. The police needed to know so they can be on the look out. Dave~ she lives at 16th and Ames...that is in Nebraska, they said she lived near Carter Lake.

Posted by: Dave on Dec 10, 2008 at 10:40 AM
Only in Iowa, Kyle. Only in Iowa...

I just sent this to the tonight show. they'll get a kick out of it.

Posted by: Jen on Dec 10, 2008 at 10:29 AM
Maybe it was a "cat burglar"... they really like tuna. (sorry, couldn't resist) Seriously though - to "Anonymous@10:12": yes, if someone broke a window of my home, entered, and trashed the place, I would file a police report, too. The fact that the perpetrator took something so trivial as a snack, while somewhat amusing, does not excuse breaking and entering!

Posted by: t on Dec 10, 2008 at 10:26 AM
I hope the thief gets stomach cramps from bad tuna salad.

Posted by: To anonymous on Dec 10, 2008 at 10:24 AM
You really wouldnt file a police report? Come on, they broke a window and enteredthe house without permission and trashed the house. If that doesnt warrant a police report, I am not sure what does.

Boy she must keep good track of whats in her fridge..I got stuff I forget all about until it starts to smell..or I see fuzzy stuff growing in the fridge..Something also tells me we will see something on Letterman or Leno about this!

Posted by: Anonymous on Dec 10, 2008 at 10:12 AM
I would feel violated but a police report??

Posted by: Kyle on Dec 10, 2008 at 10:11 AM
