A Cass County Keno committee has been organized to work on preparing a request for proposals in choosing a lottery operator.
Board members John Baroni and Jim Peterson will meet with County Attorney Nathan Cox with hopes of getting back to the rest of the board by January 20th.
Cox said the county had two options in setting up keno. One is running its own operation or hiring a lottery operator. It’s most common for cities and counties to utilize an operator and that’s the recommendation Cox made to the board. The operator would then go out and find the locations that would like to have keno.
Baroni and Commissioner Jim Engelkemier were not optimistic about the money keno can generate for the county but hoped they may be underestimating the potential.
Bill Harley of Big Red Keno attended Tuesday’s meeting and assured the county the work is minimal on the county’s part with an operator.
