A Heartland woman has to start her Christmas shopping all over again after a burglar steals the presents from underneath her tree.

It happened in the Fort Omaha Neighborhood near 30th and Fort Streets.

When the 31-year old woman returned home from work on Monday, December 1st, she noticed the back door had been kicked in. When she went into the living room she noticed Christmas wrapping paper all over the place, and many of the gifts she had planned to give to others were gone.

The burglar did leave behind some opened gifts, apparently not to his liking.

Omaha Police did interview several neighbors, at least one told them about seeing a man on the victim's porch earlier in the day. The neighbor assumed he was a salesman, and went about her business.

I haven't put presents under the tree until Christmas morning for years, to prevent this kind of burglary and to keep the kids (when they lived at home) from "accidentally" unwrapping presents. I'm with "Ford Blue" - my church sponsors families and individuals for Christmas, and so does the Salvation Army. If this victim's church or the S.A. can't help, I'd being willing to help out. Let us know - we never did hear back on the Frys (Internet loan scam).

Most of these burglaries happen its usually a neighbor that is doing the thieving. I'd check within a 3 house radius of this woman and i guarantee you will find the crook. COps just dont care, unless its a DUI or a gathering of black guys at a quick trip, Police will not solve this crime. Check the neighbors house, they probably watched her leave and then broke in!

This is a perfect example of why us citizens of Omaha should be looking out for each other. If we see strange people in our neighborhood, we should challenge them and ask what they are doing there. A polite, "May I help you?" is a simple way to start. Most of these low-life scum will think twice about kicking in a door if they know someone has seen them. If they look or act suspicious, call the cops. You may not want to talk to them, but just remember, your house may be next. Together we can combat the wave of theft, and get our city back. I am just sick of hearing how hardworking honest people are getting robbed by these cowards, and it seems to be getting worse. I wonder if the mayor and city council still think we have enough cops out there. I don't think we do, and that is why the people need to look out for each other.

I am paranoid that this is going to happen to me! I am even considering not putting our presents under our tree this year until Christmas Eve. Especially with all the bad stuff going on in Omaha lately. I can't afford to replace our gifts. I hope this person has something valuable taken away from him someday and he can see how that feels. What a scrooge.

What do you mean by this city Chardese? Hope you aren't nieve enough to think that these kinds of crime are only happening here in Omaha.

Some people are just out and out scum. If this becomes a "rash of" crime, maybe we should all wrap a few boxes of feminine hygeine products or even just empty boxes and put THOSE under the tree, while keeping our real gifts locked up and out of sight.

WHAT A GRINCH ! ! ! ! !

I do not understand people in this city. Why take something that someone has worked hard for to get? Why not go out and get a job and get your own things? I can not imagine someone taking my Christmas away. And to the woman whose presents were taken from her, do not let these idiots take away your holiday spirits and keep your head up!!!!

How tragic. How can people live with themselves? There is a nice corner in a very warm spot for people who steal others Christmas presents, you know. How dare you? You had no right to do that. You selfish, spoiled brat.

How many door to door salesmen are there anymore. This sounds like a lame excuss from lazy neighbors who did not care enough to make a difference and now they have a guilty concience.
