The man who was was the target of a police undercover sting operation was jailed Tuesday on a half-million dollars bond. Juan Silva is accused of ramming an unmarked cruiser last Wednesday, injuring a La Vista police officer.
According to court documents, Silva was supposed to sell meth to either an undercover police officer or a confidential police informant. The sting was to take place in the area of Interstate 80 and 13th Street.
For some reason Silva got spooked and fled the scene, striking the unmarked police vehicle and injuring the officer. A second officer in the car fired a shot toward the fleeing vehicle.
Silva turned himself in on Monday. At the bond hearing, his attorney argued that Silva was in the parking lot when shots were fired and fled the scene for his own safety.
The attorney went on to say that no drugs were found on Silva or in his vehicle when he turned himself in to authorities and then asked Judge Huber for a $10,000 bond.
Prosecutor Tom McKenney asked the judge for a significantly higher bond, noting the charges filed against Silva include two counts of felony assault on an officer and two counts of using a deadly weapon in the commission of a felony.
Silva will be released if he can come up with $50,000. His preliminary hearing has been set for December 30th.
