The man who was was the target of a police undercover sting operation was jailed Tuesday on a half-million dollars bond. Juan Silva is accused of ramming an unmarked cruiser last Wednesday, injuring a La Vista police officer.

According to court documents, Silva was supposed to sell meth to either an undercover police officer or a confidential police informant. The sting was to take place in the area of Interstate 80 and 13th Street.

For some reason Silva got spooked and fled the scene, striking the unmarked police vehicle and injuring the officer. A second officer in the car fired a shot toward the fleeing vehicle.

Silva turned himself in on Monday. At the bond hearing, his attorney argued that Silva was in the parking lot when shots were fired and fled the scene for his own safety.

The attorney went on to say that no drugs were found on Silva or in his vehicle when he turned himself in to authorities and then asked Judge Huber for a $10,000 bond.

Prosecutor Tom McKenney asked the judge for a significantly higher bond, noting the charges filed against Silva include two counts of felony assault on an officer and two counts of using a deadly weapon in the commission of a felony.

Silva will be released if he can come up with $50,000. His preliminary hearing has been set for December 30th.

He only had a few days to ditch the drugs that were in the car and raise his bail money before he turned himself in. If he was innocent, why was he there in the first place to meet an undercover officer that would have NO interest in him if he had no drugs and why did he run? Next I'm sure we'll hear how he was never loved by his parents and they made him chew paint chips and eat dirt around the old UP yards! As far as I'm concerned he is just another dope dealer that I'm going to have support in prison, glad that scum is off of the street!

i would like to welcome the space cadets to the conversation.. isn't the main objective of a "sting operation", to catch the criminal "RED Handed"? I mean i wonder how much money was wasted setting him up, which i feel is entrapment anyways, but besides those little infractions (overlooked by ahemmm) hes now being held on the higher bond in hopes the prosecution can get some kind of plea agreement, which if you are stupid and dont want to sit in jail for 6 months, just to go to trial, you might wanna think about it, cuz taking it to trial, in my opinion, enfuriates the courts, and if found guilty, looking at maximum penalty. One more thing, was the police cruiser just sitting still? he rammed them like going 80 in a parking lot? was the cruiser trying to block him in?? i know if i heard shots and had to take off, im doing just that, taking off... who wants to die? i sure dont, i choose number two flee, and dont look back, if i hit an umarked cruiser? oops! 1/2 million dollar bond? LOL!

I believe they should let Silva go, since there is no evidence to support the officers word. Did he have a weapon on him? What are the details? I believe the officer is trying to cover up his own mistake by firing at him!

Are you really that stupid? You automatically side with the criminal. Don't you think it's possible that after he fled the scene he dumped the drugs? As for the weapon, he used his CAR!!!! Yes "M", a vehicle is a weapon when you attempt to injure someone with it. The officer is within his right to defend himself or others when their lives are in danger. With people like you defending the criminals instead of the cops, it's no wonder we have problems.

Seems to me silva is innocent of all charges without no drugs or any weapons. Come on judge theirs two sides to every story and it seems with the bond that you gave him your only hearing one side and thats not fair. Doesn't the public wonder why silva is not dead after the cops shot out all the windows in silvas truck and why didn't they shoot at the tires. Is it be ok to take someones life because you wear a badge. It's not like he was shooting at them. On the first set of tv news they stated no cops were injured and now they say one was injured. Makes me wonder who is really telling the truth? Thank god no one else was standing around and no one else was in the vehicle with the cops shooting at silva like that.

McKinney is the prosecutor, not the defense attorney. Read, people.

More scum off the street.

Wow that seems a little extreme. It doesn't sound like this guy intended to hurt anyone. Nobody can know! If he had injured a regular Joe his bond wouldn't be half million dollars. I have the utmost respect for police and the work they do, but I don't think it's right that their lives are placed in higher regard than a "regular" person...

What a piece of work, that lawyer! Criminals are stupid anyway, but this Silva character would have be a complete idiot to turn himself in with drugs on his person. I wonder if lawyer had any comments on the evidence collected during the sting operation. Heck, I wonder if that lawyer even knows what a sting operation is? I wonder how much drug money Silva is paying him to try keep him out of jail?

This article reads---The attorney went on to say that no drugs were found on Silva, or his vehicle when he turned himself in to authorities. Well if no drugs were found on him when he turned himself in, he must be totally innocent of all charges. We must release Silva at once. This must be the dumbest attorney in the world. Come on judge you should release Silva. He didn't even have drugs on him when he turned himself in. Remind me never to hire McKenney for a criminal defense attorney.

Don't you think lawyers are almost as bad as the creeps they are protecting?
