The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services has received $44 million in federal energy assistance to help low-income families heat their homes this winter.

That compares to $26 million available last year. The money helps with heating bills, also weatherproofing homes and for crisis assistance.

Click here for information on how to get help or call the DHHS at (402) 471-3121.

Wow, S.Jean, you are absolutely right. It makes perfect sense to give everybody a discount of a few dollars a month on their gas bill rather than to help out a family in need. It's not our problem if they freeze, or resort to space heaters and burn their houses down. As long as our bills are a little lower we'll be okay.

This $18 million should just be signed over to MUD and they should give everybody a break. Why shouldn't everyone's bills be lowered?
