Iowa's First Lady is paying a $50 fine for her smoking faux pas. Mari Culver was spotted earlier this week smoking a cigarette in a state vehicle. That's illegal under a law signed in April by her husband, Iowa Governor Chet Culver. The law banned smoking in most workplaces, including company owned vehicles.

Culver spokesman Phil Roeder says the First Lady asked to be issued a citation because she does not expect to be treated differently than anyone.

The citation was issued on Friday, and Culver immediately paid the $50 fine.

You know, "Lighting Up" has connotations toward a lesser relative of cigarettes. The headline is a bit sensational, implying the First Lady was smoking something more criminal.

Honesty is the best policy. Thanks for admitting to your mistake and paying the fine.

Regardless of whether you are first lady of the state or the President of the United States....The law is the law and it should be punishable by that statute. Just because you are in an office doesn't give you the right to break the rules once they are passed into law in a particular state. No smoking means No smoking. What part of NO don't you understand. Face it....Law is Law and rules are rules. Get over it lady and take it like a man. Do not smoke where you are not allowed to smoke. Do not smoke...Do not pass Go and do not PASS on not following the rules and laws according to local and state goverments. SHAME ON YOU!!! SHAME....SHAME....SHAME....ON YOU!!!!

Well, at least she's honest.

VERY nice! Enforce the law HARD, as just because she's a smoker, she shouldn't expected to be treated better than anyone else.
