A former Lexington teacher has pleaded not guilty to state charges for having sex and fleeing to Mexico with a 13-year-old student.

Kelsey Peterson is already serving a six-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to federal charges. The 26-year-old former teacher appeared in Dawson County Friday. She entered a not guilty plea to charges of first-degree sexual assault of a child, felony child abuse and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Authorities say Peterson was the boy's sixth-grade math teacher at Lexington Middle School during the 2005-06 school year. They say she then started having sex with him in November 2006.

Oh for cryong out loud, she is already serving time at the Federal level, why does the State have to get into this also, does she have to serve two sentences? She made a bad decision and had sex with this boy, she didn't kill him. She was wrong and is paying the price, but what more do they want, blood?

I don't hear the kid complaining. Let her free so the world can judge her as she walks down the streets.

This female teacher needs to lose her teaching license and be fixed via an operation. What kind of teacher would fall in love with someone in their own class and then take them somewhere to have sex with them. How young was this boy? I truly believe that she has a problem and it needs to be dealt with both physically and mentally. If memory serves me correctly, she had already plead guilty to other charges including the charge of having sex with a minor and now she is pleading not guilty? For what reason? She had already plead guilty. You do the crime...You do the time. She is not that special to do something like that and what gives her the right especially if she is a teacher? She deserves what she gets and I hope the judge throws the book at her!!! Find her guilty as charges on all counts and see how differently she acts when she is behind bars wishing that all of this never happened.

I'm not saying this person is not guilty, but did the police ever confirm for 100% sure that the young man was actually 15 at the time? If I remember correctly, there was no birth certificate and it was in question - but I can't remember if that was true or ever resolved. But, regardless of that - the kid was a student in a high school and at whatever age should be protected. The world is getting to be a pretty sad place when women begin to become the preditors rather than the protectors.

The females always do, never the guys though. This poor 13 yr old kid could be ruined for life too!

She pled guilty at the federal level, but not guilty at the state level. Can anyone tell me what that means?

It's too bad her mom is not a state senator or that her dad is not on city council in omaha or she could probably get out of this without anybody knowing. Hmmm...makes one wonder what I know...doesn't it?!
