An Omaha man has been arrested for drunk driving, again. According to Sarpy County investigators, it's his 5th arrest for DUI.

La Vista Police arrested 53 year old Kevin Irish. The county attorney's office tells Channel Six News, Irish refused to take a breath test, so he'll face aggravated charges.

A conviction could get Irish from one to 50 years behind bars. He lost a high profile position because of a drunk driving arrest five years ago. Irish resigned from the MECA board, which controls the Qwest Center.

I really, really think he has learned his lesson this time. Have him pinky swear not to drink again. We all know that we can trust him this time. Besides, people die every day. So what if a few more die. He only wants to have a good time and isn't it his inalienable right to drink and drive drunk. Isn't that what we all want to do? Enough sarcasm now. Nothing will be done this time either except maybe a few days locked up which is barely enough time for him to sober up.

DO NOT re-elect Don Kline when the prosecutor position comes up for a new vote.

Where there are only five arrests, there must be at least a hundred times he escaped being caught and put every one of our lives and our children's lives in danger. He may not hve killed someone yet but he is trying very hard to accomplish that feat. This man is a hard core alcoholic that has no intention of ever changing. I feel sorry for what he has put his family (or former family) through all these years.

This guy is obviously either really stupid or a true alcoholic. I think they should slap a SCRAM monitor on him for a couple years and throw him in AA. You know he won't get jail so this is a good option. Plus send him to a MADD VIP except he's probably already been to one after this many DUI's.

At least he is taken off the street so he won't kill anyone.

Looks like the system works....*sarcasm*

Five DUI's and a conviction "could" get this drunken idiot 1-50 years in jail. He should have been put behind bars the first time around for 6 months to a year at least. The second time he should have gone to jail and for a much longer period of time. There NEVER should have been a third, fourth or fifth time for this drunk. He should have lost way more than just a high profile position. If he would have hit and maimed or killed someone while driving drunk, that person(s) would have lost way more than a job. Mr. Irish has no respect for the law or his fellow citizens. Anyone who gets that drunk and gets five DUI's obviously has no respect for himself either. Treatment and a long time in jail is what he needs. Get him off the streets, please!!!!!

The drunk should never be allowed to legally drive again unless he can prove he has been sober for 5 years after completing a prison sentence if he receives one.

It's high time Mr. Irish sits behind bars for a few years...maybe then he will sober up and the rest of the city can have one less drunk driver on the road! It's ludicris this man has been busted for DUI 5 times and isn't already behind bars for a long time!

That's nothing. My brother had at least 6. The funny thing is, he was hired to drive a school bus in Millard. His past DUI's didn't show up when they checked his record because they go off your record after a few years.

If they made the dui charges more harsh people would think twice about even getting 1 dui. In my opinion, for a dui you should get a mandatory 1 month in jail with your license suspended and car impounded for 1 year.

Kevin - you have a rough road ahead of you, but know that there is help out there. If you'd just reach out - I promise you - you'll never have to live like this again. Its not to late to save yourself and rebuild your life, while keeping other people safe from your addiction.

Why is this even in the news. I bet he feels bad enough, let alone his family.

Posted by: LLR on Nov 22, 2008 at 02:34 AM
Well, then, give him the max. Most people on 5th DUI would be behind bars for more than a year.

Wow. 5th arrest. That's only the time's he has been caught. Imagine how many other times that winner has put the rest of us in danger. But hey, at least he's not a quitter. Oh wait...

Posted by: John on Nov 21, 2008 at 11:08 PM
5 DUI he should be locked up. He puts people in danger every time he gets behind the wheel.

Posted by: annonymous on Nov 21, 2008 at 10:24 PM
I hope he gets the full 50. Of course, this is Nebraska...and no judge will do that...so he'll get a slap on the wrist...

Posted by: Bob on Nov 21, 2008 at 10:18 PM
Lock him up and throw away the key. Some people will never change no matter how many chances they have. What is it going to take, him to drive drunk and kill someone before a harsh penalty is called for?

Posted by: Joe Black on Nov 21, 2008 at 10:16 PM
to DA Lee Polikov: Lee, Its his 5th DUI. would you please pursue real punishment, this man is a menace to society and will never ever learn his lesson. Throw him in prison for at least 20 years.

Posted by: Dan on Nov 21, 2008 at 09:15 PM
Take his car and house away and I'm telling you that he will take a cab. Simple as that. You can't rehab this guy. You need to throw him out on the street and have him lose everything.

Posted by: LS on Nov 21, 2008 at 08:48 PM
Clearly the man has a problem with alcohol...the legal drug that kills many.Hopefully the judge will send him to 2-3 years in an inpatient treatment program so he can get some help. 30 days won't do it and neither will 100. He needs to dry up and learn a new way to live.

This guy obviously has a problem with drinking and driving. Throw the book at him. If nebraska has any values they will look at this idiot and lock him up

Posted by: awesome on Nov 21, 2008 at 08:27 PM
Great job La Vista police. If I recall right this idiot tried to assault an officer a few years back on ONE of his dui arrests. Lock him up and throw away the key. He gets what he deserves the selfish individual he is.
