A Heartland couple, legally separated, and headed toward divorce now are at opposite ends of an alleged crime. The husband accuses his soon to be ex-wife of credit card fraud.

The 53-year old man moved out of the couple's Millard West High Neighborhood home earlier this year, but his new Cabela's Visa credit card was sent to his old address.

According to the police report, the man's 44-year old estranged wife activated the card and began spending.

Part of the alleged nearly $4,000 in charges included $3,200 to her divorce attorney.

The husband told authorities he contacted the outdoor outfitter who recommended he contact local authorities, and start the process of resolving the charges.

The victim tells authorities he will prosecute his estranged wife for credit card fraud.

The story says it is a Cabela's VISA. That means it's a VISA credit card that can be used other places than Cabela's. I have a Sears MasterCard; while the card says "Sears" on it it is a MasterCard that can be used anywhere that charge card is accepted.

I hope she does jail time. So many females in these situations think something is owed to them because they where married for a number of yrs. Well so was the man!

Why did this make the news? I'm sure it happens all the time.

The lawyer is just as guilty, the lawyer accepted the card as payment, and had to know it was not hers, the name is right on the front! I do hope the lawyer and woman do go to jail for a long long time!

My brother kind of had the same thing happen to him. She activated a card after they split and maxed it out at 10,000. Like a dummy he paid it, in spite of the kids. That was 8 years since he last saw his kids. The lawyer was an IVY League crook. Well hopefully she will reallize all this plus interest will be applied towards them getting a college education.

Its not fraud. They're still legally married and so its half hers. Besides, he's responsible for half the divorce charges. My divorce lawyer told me that just a few months ago. Besides, how can you use a Cabela card for a divorce? Is it like a Visa or something?

Posted by: jason on Nov 21, 2008 at 03:56 PM
OK. How the heck do you pay a lawyer with a Cabela Credit Card? Buy him a bunch of fishing poles and sleeping bags??
