Omaha Police reported Friday morning three more Metro convenience stores were robbed in a time span between 9:15 p.m. Thursday to 4:00 a.m. Friday.

At 9:17 p.m. Thursday officers were called to the Kum & Go at 6606 Blondo Street. The employee told officers the suspect entered the store, displayed a firearm and demanded money. After receiving money the suspect fled northbound.

At 10:08 p.m. officers responded to another robbery call from Kabredlo's Service Station at 5444 Center Street. In this case, the employee told officers two suspects entered the store and demanded money. No weapon was displayed or indicated. After being given some cash, the suspects grabbed two cases of beer and fled.

Friday morning at 4:01 a.m. officers were called to the Kiwk Shop at 3606 Leavenworth Street regarding a robbery. The employee reported the suspect entered the business, walked behind the counter and demanded money. After receipt of an undetermined amount of cash, the suspect fled on foot, northbound.

In all three cases the suspect descriptions are not very detailed; based on the information available it does not appear that the any of the three robberies are connected.

those hours were fine in the past but there are many of us who have to work until 11 or even overnight. (not at convenience stores but factories or reservation centers) Some of us even have second jobs (or more) These stores are important to us. What needs to happen (but won't) is for people to tell authorities what they know about these robberies.

Really, all the public schools are "taxpayer funded babysitting for people that couldn't afford to have kids in the first place". People who can afford kids put them in private school. That's why senators kids go to private schools. Oh yeah, and so are Obama's kids.

You know, Larry, "longer school hours" really means "more taxpayer-funded babysitting for people that couldn't afford to have kids in the first place".

Shorter hours-5:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. If you can't get what you want during that time period, you don't need it. Too many people need instant everything. I remember when Omaha rolled up the streets at 5:00 and you did your errands on Saturday. From the looks of Saturday traffic now, that hasn't changed.

Here's an idea - If you don't want to take the precautions needed to protect your store, maybe don't be open 24 hours a day?

Posted by: Larry on Nov 21, 2008 at 02:51 PM
Time to debate Private vs Public property and law enforcement, Protect and Serve, Community Policing, Curfews, Crowd Control laws and most of all-BEHAVIOR that effects us all. Maybe even longer school hours, and not letting 16 year olds' (or under) to quit school and/or roam the streets instead of school hallways, classrooms, etc.

Why don't the lawmakers force these stores to have security after 11:00 P.M. or, at the very least, have 2 employees on duty. This is a dangerous job and someone needs to protect those who need to work to save them from those who don't. Wake up Omaha/Council Bluffs and find a way to protect these people before someone else is killed.

To worthless, how many robbers do you here of that read that sign and say "man i cant rob this place they have a no gun sign on the door" dumb***

Why don't we stop blaming police officers for crime and start blaming the criminals! Duh makes a good point, police can't be everywhere at once, and if a burglar sees a cop at Target A they will move down the street to Target B.

This is getting out of hand. We need to stand up as a community and stop this from happening. You know who are and you should turn your "friends" in. If you want money get a job. I am so sick of the economy excuse. Look at Omaha we have tons of job openings. Go out and be productive citizen.

T--Uh it's called precincts, 132nd and Center is probably in the SW precinct, why would a cop that works that area be patrolling down in the area that was robbed, way on the opposite side of town? As far as I know officers are assigned to certain sections of town, and if current events are accurate, the SW officers probably have a little more time to drink slushees at 4am.

Gee, as if life isn't hard enough right now on most people - the losers in this community are coming out of the woodwork to steal, rip off others, and knock old women over for their purses. It's called, GET A JOB AND DO SOMETHING CONSTRUCTIVE AND USEFUL WITH YOUR LIFE! What a bunch of losers.

Pat, I agree with your comments about bullet proof glass, etc. It won;t do anything to stop robberies, but it will keep employees safe. However, the economic downturn has nothing to do with the upswing in crime. Most of these thugs are lazy, uneducated, unemployed bums who would rather steal money to buy their drugs, illegal firearms, etc than earn an honest living. Course if they did that, they would't be able to be out running the streets at all hours of the night, would they?

Instead of being called Kum & Go at 66th at 66th and Blondo it should be rob me & run it seems to be a popular store for that. I guess its cheaper to get robbed once in awhile than to hire security. As far as T commit I live in the 66 Blondo and the police do stop there and unless you are real stupid no one robs a store with the cop car sitting out front.

To worthless signs: you either havent taken the class or didnt listen about using a firearm with your concealed permit That kind of comments scares people, you make it sounds like gunslingers.

Hey T- An officer frequenting a store at 132nd and Center can't hang out at a store at 66th and Blondo because they then would be out of their precinct. Officers stop in at various conveinence stores throughout the city at all times of the day to use the restroom and/or get a pop. Most stores do offer coffee or fountain drinks to officers for the very reason of preventing a robbery. I would imagine that Bucky's has been robbed in the past, and I know personally that officers have frequented the stores at 66th and Blondo and 36th and Leavenworth. The police can't be everywhere at the same time and there is no way to prove what may or may not have happened somewhere. Perhaps the Bucky's did not get robbed that night because the officers were there. If there was an officer at 66th and Blondo at the time then the robbers likely would have moved on to the BUcky's at 72nd and Maple. Criminals will be criminals no matter what and we can only hope the cops are Johnny on the spot one time

Do you ever notice donut shops never get robbed??

Posted by: Im Smart on Nov 21, 2008 at 10:42 AM
Actually Pat, I came up with that idea. Sorry you are a day late and a dollar short.

Posted by: Anonymous on Nov 21, 2008 at 10:40 AM
T, maybe that location doesnt get robbed because of the officers.

Posted by: Anonymous on Nov 21, 2008 at 10:22 AM
Well T, maybe if these convencince stores were a little nicer to officers, they would hang out there. Why would they hang out at anti police places? use your head

Worthless Signs - Two out of three, I'd guess. Every Kwik Shop and Kabredlo's I've been to is posted, but Kum and Go's generally aren't.

My husband and I own and operate a small business. Honestly, lately, I am afraid much of the time. If we were a victim of a robbery, I believe we would close up. Two families besides our own would be impacted. My children are grown up and on their own. That is not true for them. They need the work we provide. Please, please someone help Omaha and turn these punks in!

Posted by: Worthless Signs on Nov 21, 2008 at 08:53 AM
Am I correct in assuming that all three of those stores have the magical "no concealed firearms" signs on the door?

Posted by: T on Nov 21, 2008 at 08:50 AM
Hmmm... so, why is it that every time I go into the Bucky's 132nd & Center location @ 4am, 2 officers are hanging out drinking a free slushee? Maybe they should start hanging out at the convenience stores that typically get robbed.

Posted by: Pat on Nov 21, 2008 at 08:42 AM
So now my idea about getting bullet proof glass and metal drawers to pass the items through. Doesn't seem so bad anymore? Wake up omaha, this depression the economy is in is leading to more crime!
