An area convenience store is robbed for the second time in two months.
The Kwik Shop at 96th and Q was held up this morning at 12:30.

The clerk tells police a single suspect walked in demanding money. The thief did not show a weapon and once he was given the money he took off on foot.

The same store was robbed by three men back in September.

@Citizen: Anything over $20 is supposed to go into a drop-safe, at least it was when I worked a night shift at a convenience store/gas station in college. So, all the store would lose would be $20. Do the math - $50 x $30 - $1500 vs. the one night a month getting robbed, losing $20. Kwik Shop corporate policy says to hand over the money without arguing, since it presumably "saves a life". Unfortunately, this Kwik Shop has now been advertised as a quick way to make money - easy to steal from, don't even have to show a weapon.

Thanks to all the apartment complexes in that area for the demise of a beautiful part of town by renting to unqualified, poor credit, drug dealing,ex- convict scum. I bet your collection departments business has tripled since 1995.

I agree that there should be some type of security. They don't pay people enough to be killed in a robbery for a few dollars. I think if they're going to stay open after 11:00 there should be a law requiring an armed security guard or at least 2 people on duty. That extra 50 bucks a night to have another person there is well worth it if it saves a life.

So what, 96th & Q is still inside the crappy part of Omaha, no matter how many hairs you split.

Does it matter where the place is? Yes, it's Ralston! My son lives just south of there. Nice area. Sadly, it doesn't matter these days. Even West Omaha is not immune to violence and robberies. And, to the person who said they should carry guns...then what happens when they steal it from you and shoot you? I worked at a conv. store in the south, many years ago, and another store just down the street was robbed and they killed the kid working the night shift. Cops can't be everywhere, all the time, either. The violence just needs to stop. It's ridiculous, and very very sad. RIP Tari.

I agree that there needs to be security on the premises. Unless you are an owner who likes to give away free money to anyone flashing a gun. Then by all means, keep doing what your doing. Then, when your insurance rates are too high, say to yourself, duh, maybe I should do something." To any employee: You take your life i your own hands by working at a convenience store by yourself. If, however, you consider this ok, make sure your Life Insurance policy is up to date.

Hey been there 96 and Q is south of I-80 look at a map I-80 runs north of the rail road tracks which is north of F street pretty much from 42nd to past 96th.

There should be at least two employees on duty, but who can afford that (per shift). Siance I ailready pay taxes, wouldn't it be better to demand that lawyers, judges, police etc., just enforce the laws (whether or not something occurs on private vs. public proerty, before or after 1:00am, Four or less people, etc...? Also stop letting them out when with only half their sentence served. Most of all defence lawyers should not be allowed to manufacture B------T stories to get the perps off, and they should pay the court costs!

AND Q is SOUTH of I-80... check your map.

to Been There Kids - 96th and Q isn't northeast omaha, it's RALSTON... Nowadays, I'd consider it part of southwest or south central metro area. Geez...

Hey, Pat, 96th & Q *is* Northeast Omaha, because it's inside the I-80/I-680 "shooting gallery loop". These things happen much, much more rarely West of I-680 than they do East of I-680.

They need to get the bullet proof glass and pass through steel drawers, like they do in South Central LA and East St. Louis. We are getting on their levels. SOrry west omaha, its not as safe here as we all thought it was in our fairy tale hick lives!

I did a stint on the night shift in a convenience store when I was in college after an enlistment in the USMC many years ago. I carried a gun while I worked (not stuffed under the counter, like some idjits do, but in an IWB holster). I was never robbed, but maybe that's partly because when I reached up to get cigs for a customer (which I did thousands of times), they could see the compact 45ACP as my shirt lifted. It was a mom n pop store, not a big chain with stupid "no guns" signs posted. I wouldn't work a convenience store night shift where they didn't let you go armed, that's just insane.

If convenient stores are going to be open after 10pm a security guard should be required. This is probably the most dangerous job in America.
