An undercover drug sting leads to shots fired. It happened outside the Comfort Inn Hotel near 13th St. and Interstate 80 around 9:30pm Wednesday night.

Omaha police tell Channel 6 news that an undercover officer discharged a weapon during the incident. Investigators aren't saying if the suspect fired at the officers.

Police were monitoring a potential drug deal and attempted to make contact with a suspect. The suspect then rammed his vehicle into the officer’s unmarked vehicle and then fled the scene.

It was then that the officer fired a weapon at the suspect vehicle.

Nearby, a small tree had been upended and there was glass in the street as though the truck had barreled through the parking lot.

Police are looking for a Ford F150 pickup.

No officers were injured in the incident.

Unfortunatly my frustration gets the best of me sometimes. And you are right I was not there.

You are right. My appologies.

Once again DB you have your facts wrong. No helicopter and only a few officers. Without giving out too many details of how the job is done things are fluid and happen quickly. In this case Murphy's Law was in play. As for you Grandmother and bad experiences - well sorry for grandma and if you've had bad EXPERIENCES then sounds like maybe YOU have an issue to two. Either way you still admit to moving violations being involved in your scerios - valid reason(s) for stopping cars. Still the point is this guy ran for his life (freedom). Not a "typical" "routine" traffic stop for a citation. This guy is a drug dealer. He poisons our communities and knows he'll go away for a long time when caught. Once again you need to fill out the application - come on aboard to OPD and make "your" difference.

Hmmm... how many Police Officers and a helicopter? Don't mean to disrespect you officer, but I have had some bad experiences with OPD and Bellevue Police. When they give a Grandmother a speeding ticket going down a hill right where the speed limit changes and a moving violation for not using a turn signal to pull over with a screaming 1 year old in the back seat. That leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Yes true story!

Hey wise guy you could have caught him yourself huh?? Ever tried to stop a drug dealer/thug who's choice is fight or flight - doubt it. This guy wanted to get away. He did everything he could and got away. Small curbs for an F150 are no problem. I'm not a Ford fan but even Fords can jumb a curb. People on the interstate aren't running the risk of life in prison generally. If they are then they are the idiots who get in pursiuts with police. So DB until you become an officer - by the way have you heard of the mass hiring by OPD - don't talk how you COULD HAVE DONE THIS OR THAT. If you don't feel safe then become an officer and show us what you got.

To The Original Cop: Sure you can report suspicious activity and hope the neighbor(s) get arrested but when they get out, they immediately blame and threaten other neighbors. I know...it happened to someone I know last year. The idiot got arrested but got out right away, blamed and threatened his next door neighbor. The neighbor really felt safe after that since the guy blaming him seems like a "gangsta" wannabe. Maybe that is why alot of people do not turn in other neighbors that have suspicious activity going on.

When someone is desperate and reckless enough to ram a police car and then drive over a tree, which probably wasn't in the paved exit you mention, it complicates things a little for apprehension, especially when the police car may have been damaged/disabled. Go with what the story gives you, not assumptions. You know what they say when you assume...

DN4NU, the guy drove over a tree! Guessing the 1-way road didn't mean a whole lot to this guy. Also, I'm sure you could've caught the guy. A wreckless drug dealer doing whatever it takes to get away... have fun with that Rambo!

How in the world did this clown get away. There is one way in and out of that hotel. I could have caught him myself. You can zap someone going 10 miles over the speed limit on the interstate run them down and give them a ticket, but a drug dealer surrounded by OPD in a dead-end and the guy gets away. AMAZING! That makes me feel safe.

To "Good Job OPD"- As I posted after a story last week about people shot at a "crack house", search warrants are served nearly every day in this city involving drugs, guns, gang members, and/or wanted people. The fact that the media does not cover them all does not mean they are not happening. That is what leads to my frustration about people claiming the police don't care and don't do anything about these issues. I'm not privy to the Departments specific reasoning about what info to release and what not to release, but I can tell you that if the department put out all the information you ask about, it would be a non stop stream of info. The best thing to do is remain aware of you neighbors and if you see suspicious and/or criminal activity then report it. Officers from various units can look into the concerns and if there is something to it then they can go from there.

owner of a f-150- Look for the one with the tree stuck under it, the broken window, or even the damage of hitting another car. that may narrow it down a little

I saw the truck on my way to work ,about 20 of them ,,,if you want our help give us more details

Posted by: Nicole on Nov 20, 2008 at 08:28 AM
Glad no one was hurt. However, what color was the truck? Was it a newer or older model. Any damage to it from this incident? What does the suspect look like?

Once again, OPD, great job! I am curious though. There was a major drug bust next in my area about three weeks and I wonder why the news media did not cover this? There was a swat team who busted down the door and apprehended someone not for sure. This house must have been under surveillance for quite a long time. Just glad that the individuals or scumbags were caught. It seems as though half of the police force was at the house in NE Omaha. Unfortunately, some of the individuals are still in the house..but not for long. To anyone out there, when raids such as this happens, is the public privy to this information as to why there was a raid? I certainly dont want a gang banger, meth head or drug dealer living next door to me. How can the public find out this information? Please advise.
