An Omaha man who refused to be a victim in his own home fought back against two men who forced their way in Monday afternoon, grabbing away a gun and shooting one of the suspects.

Twenty-nine-year-old Allen Kelley told police two armed men pushed their way into his home at 45th and Nicholas around 3 p.m. Kelley struggled with the pair and was able to take the gun away from one and open fire.

The wounded man was able to get away in Kelley's car.

A short time later, a man arrived at Creighton University Medical Center with a gunshot wound. His injuries are not considered to be life threatening.

Police have not confirmed if this man was the same one involved in the home invasion. At this time, no arrests have been reported in the case.

Way to go Mr. Kelly, too bad you didn't kill him but I hope he has an extremly BAD limp for the rest of his life! I hope this crook is now in jail where he belongs!

Posted by: Steve on Nov 19, 2008 at 11:26 AM
To Ken...This guy WILL NOT get jail time...was self defense, a burglary, & in his own home. Had to fight the guy for the gun to save his own life. GET A GRIP ! ! !

Posted by: LARRY on Nov 19, 2008 at 08:28 AM
Good start Mr. Kelly. Now go buy a gun and practice your aim.

Posted by: Anonymous on Nov 19, 2008 at 12:24 AM
It's not the way I'd want to make the news, but if it happens to me, this is the way I hope it comes out!

I think the crime rate would drop if we heard more stories about the victims taking control of the situation and turning the predators into prey. Way to go Mr. Kelly and hope these punks don't try and come into my house. More of the same waits for them.

Laura, it wasnt the homeowners gun, it was the bad guys gun. You hear more of the bad than the good about guns from the media. You sound like youre anti gun. Way to go Mr. Kelly.

This is a great story for the NRA!!

Posted by: Keith on Nov 18, 2008 at 04:49 PM
If only he had better aim....

Posted by: Todd on Nov 18, 2008 at 04:48 PM
A real OMAHA HERO! Too bad he didnt kill the robbers...

Posted by: b on Nov 18, 2008 at 04:12 PM
Aim for the head next time

Posted by: Mark on Nov 18, 2008 at 04:09 PM
Ken, I doubt he will get jail time. Citizens are standing up and fighting for their rights. The Omaha man who shot and killed his landlord for breaking in his house didn't do any time. Justice will be served.

That's what I'm talking about! Would be nice to see more stories and hear more incidents turning out this way.

Good job Kelly

Posted by: Amy on Nov 18, 2008 at 03:47 PM
Good for him. Maybe this will make scum like that rethink what they are doing before they go forcing themselves into other peoples houses!!

Posted by: Congrats! on Nov 18, 2008 at 03:25 PM
Finally and YES - shoot them all! Even if the sleazy slimeball decides to sue (because he was shot inside the house), all he will be doing is demonstrating his obvious lack of intelligence. According to law, if Kelley feared for his life at any time during the home invasion, he is clearly within his rights to use deadly force (gun, knife, sledgehammer, etc) to defend himself. Even though the end result could have been disasterous (Kelley might have been hurt or killed), there is no guarantee that he would have been any safer by not fighting back so I applaud his effort. If it had been my home, I can guarantee the injured invader would have not gotten out and his buddy would have been waiting for the police right next to him. More citizens are arming themselves which should put fear back into the heartless minds of these criminals. They better start believing that their punishment may not wait for a court date, it could be behind door number 1, 2 & 3 of their next home invasion!

I had Bernie Goetz as my hero... I will now add Allen Kelley to my list. Enter my home without permission and you are killed on the spot! I will taser you, shoot you, hit you with my lead pipe and then filet you and just to make sure I did the job I will have my dog bit and pee on you!

This is the first time I have heard that owning a gun actually did something good. Good job!

Posted by: JJ on Nov 18, 2008 at 03:09 PM
Maybe this is a first step in taking the community back. The thugs have to be shown that we refuse to live in fear from now on. We refuse to give in to them! We demand our streets back!

Posted by: ray on Nov 18, 2008 at 03:02 PM
Good Job, w/out a doubt the man who showed up at the hospital is the invader. how many people get shot in Omaha w/in the same hour @ 3pm in the broad daylight

Posted by: Southern Justice on Nov 18, 2008 at 02:49 PM
There you go, man. If the OGs new that they would get shot at while breaking in, then there would be such a low crime rate.

Posted by: D on Nov 18, 2008 at 02:48 PM
GOOOOOOODDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!

Posted by: LLR on Nov 18, 2008 at 02:36 PM
Good for Mr Kelly! The more we refuse to become victims, the less these criminals will be apt to see us as an easy target. If they invaded MY home I wouldn't need to get their gun away from them...they'd be staring straight down the barrel of MINE.

Posted by: Anonymous on Nov 18, 2008 at 02:32 PM
Finally.

Posted by: Mike on Nov 18, 2008 at 02:32 PM
Way to go Allen. I'm glad that you are alright.

Posted by: Julia on Nov 18, 2008 at 02:32 PM
Good...shoot em all. With all the purse snatchings, robberies, its time everyone fought back. I have a gun and wont be afraid to use it if thugs come breaking in my house.

Posted by: Becky on Nov 18, 2008 at 02:30 PM
Good for him!! Give em what they have coming!

Posted by: Mike on Nov 18, 2008 at 02:29 PM
VERY nice! It's very good to hear that someone is protecting their living environment. NO charges better be filed against the victim.

Posted by: KeithSr on Nov 18, 2008 at 02:28 PM
Way to go, Kelley! You know, gun control advocates tell us not to have guns in our homes, because criminals will take them to use against us. Nobody warned the criminals that the opposite could happen to them. It all comes down to who is willing to use the gun, and the victim protecting his or her family and household is the most willing. Let the gun control advocates give their message to the criminals. The homeowners don't need to know.

Posted by: Joshua on Nov 18, 2008 at 02:26 PM
AWESOME! Good job Kelley. This is why guns should not be outlawed. Outlaws alredy have them. We should be able to protect ourselves!

Posted by: Kristina on Nov 18, 2008 at 02:18 PM
THAT....IS....AWESOME!!!!!!!! I just pray the idiot who broke in doesn't sue the homeowner...I think I have heard that happen in the past. Cheers to Allen and I am so glad you took care of those guys and came out alive and to tell the story!

Posted by: Ken on Nov 18, 2008 at 02:12 PM
Good for Allen. Of course, in this day and age, he'll probably get some jail time for it.....

Posted by: Anonymous on Nov 18, 2008 at 02:10 PM
Maybe not the smartest thing to do but kudos to this guy! With all the shooting you never know the outcome. At least he didn't go down without a fight.
