Omaha Police said Tuesday an arrest was made in the shooting death of a man outside an American Legion Hall last week.
Twenty-one-year-old Jeremy Foster was taken into custody Monday night for the murder of 25-year-old Victor Henderson, found dead in the parking lot of American Legion Post 30 at 33rd and Parker early on the morning of November 10th. Four others were wounded.
Henderson’s family is pleased police made an arrest. "I feel they did a good job and my heart goes out to the Foster family because we know them, grew up with them,” says Victor’s sister, Juarquate Brown.
"I was actually relieved. I know it made my mom feel good, being that she lost her son." Brown says the news is helping the family cope with the difficulties.
Then they realized they knew Foster's family, grew up with and are friends with many.
"I guess he just went the wrong way because everybody else in his family didn't do it, it's just him so there's no problem with us and them," says Victor's sister, Lou Edwards. "We just want to see justice done."
Edwards is concerned because there have been threats made against her family.
"What may be most troubling for Victor's family is that he was playing peacemaker, breaking up a fight at the time he was shot and killed. The fight broke out in the parking lot, he'd grabbed one of the participants, was turning them away to keep them from all of the trouble, that's when I'm told the shooter approached from behind."
"He actually broke up two fights that night and really expected nothing, just trying to keep the peace," says Brown. Instead he was killed, a brother and cousin wounded and the family's faith made stronger by the loss.
The Hendersons say they're praying for strength as well as for Foster's family so that they may get through this trying time.
