A rescue squad report is in the hands of the Plattsmouth City Council.
Following a detailed assessment by an outside professional firm, a nine-member local group focused more on short-term recommendations to deal with a staffing situation that has resulted in the all-volunteer squad not able to respond to as many as 25% of the calls at times in recent months the Cassgram reported.
Mutual aid assistance from Murray, Bellevue or Louisville is requested when Plattsmouth cannot assemble a crew.
Rescue department treasurer Shane Parshall served on the study group and told the city council the group focused on "dealing with the dire needs" of the rescue department in order "to keep the high level of service" the community has experienced over the years.
"We’re stressed under the call volume and the training requirements," he said. Rescue calls totaled over 700 in each of the past few years. The department averages 16 members.
