The presidential race is heating up and some metro kids are taking part in the action. Although they can't quite vote yet, elementary students are weighing in on who they think is best for the job.
Monday was day one of the "can"didate drive at Carriage Hill and Skyline elementary schools.
Students choose whether to put their donated canned goods in the Obama or McCain designated barrells.
Just like adults, some are undecided. “I’m probably going to bring 3 or 4 tomorrow and I don’t know who I’m voting for yet. I’m going to wait to decide that later.” Says 5th Grader Jordan Peterson.
Others know exactly who they are voting for and why.
“I voted for John Mccain because I think that he’ll have a lot of confidence for our country.” Says 5th Grader Jae-lyn Takemura.
Student Beth Forsyth says it’s good to have a chance to get involved. “If you could vote, you actually, you get a chance. Instead of just staying at home and listening to what your parents can do, you get to do something for once.”
The barrells will be weighed by the food bank, where all of the donations will end up on Monday October 20th. The winning candidate will be announced by each school.
So far republican John McCain is winning the race at Carraige Hill.
The school that weighs in the most can goods will win a visit from local magician Jeff Quinn.
