As fathers, grandfathers and other guests poured into Dodge Elementary school Monday, principal Emily Miller knew she had a hit on her hands. Miller said, “this is fantastic all of our dads are here.”
Monday was Dads’ Day here at Dodge Elementary school in west Omaha. Every student in the school was invited to bring their father, grandfather or any significant male guest for a classroom visit and a sit down lunch
It may not seem like a big thing but principal Miller said,“it all adds up, any and every adult that is in a child’s life in a positive way makes a big difference . There are no small interactions.”
Gerald Stewart knows. He has four kids attending Dodge and today there’s no place else he’d rather be .Stewart said, “ it’s great, watching your kid growing up especially seeing them every day, seeing how big he’s going to be, you know trying to put into them what you want them to be.”
Alex Horton is looking forward to the future. He said, “it’s not just all about mom it’s about dad too so it’s very important because you know if they become big stars or whatever it’s always hi mom but it’s never hi dad.”
It wasn’t just about lunch. The men were welcome to visit the classrooms too. Jeff Curtis got so see his son JJ at work on the computer. Curtis said, “I would be out working in the rain right now and I’d much rather be here having lunch with him.”
In all 124 men stopped by for lunch. Principal Miller says she plans on another Dads’ Day next year.
